BEGINNING SIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!
SIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES ARE CLOSED UNTIL THE NEW YEAR
PLEASE CHECK BACK AFTER JANUARY 4TH
FOR DETAILS WHEN WE PLAN TO START AGAIN.
We typically have class on Wednesday nights in Long Beach, CA
Please read all of the word below to understand how this works.
Our starting time 7:00 p.m. - Finish approximately 8:30 p.m.
If nobody shows up by 7:31,
I will leave and come back the following week.
You may attend beginning ASL classes. Anyone can come.*
The cost is $7 per person per class,
includes coffee.
Students who wish to brush up on their ASL grammar, increase vocabulary, learn new interpreting techniques, or just use their sign language in a more professional forum, you are all welcome. We can also go over any homework you may have.
If you wish to have private tutoring please let me know.
I will be happy to help you with that.**
This class is more like a tutoring class for anyone new to sign language or not.
I will be using the A Basic Course in American Sign Language 2nd Ed. as the text book.
This is not required but extremely helpful.
If you follow the program I lay out, and use the text I suggestion, you will be taught the following:
More than 1500 signs (if you are a current student or have some
fore-knowledge of sign language then some sign and gestures you may know already)
You will be taught the new signs for the different countries here in our world.
(There have been changes over the years)
Deaf Culture - You will be taught about Deaf Culture and upon occasion you will meet those who are Deaf.
This course is 8 weeks long every Wednesday unless otherwise designated.
Please refer to this site for any updates, daily. This site will serve as your source for "between" class information. Including links to tests, etc. if needed.
Tests/Quizes, This not a graded class nor is it for any kind of official collegiate credit. If you take these classes offered, you do so as means of
1. Entertainment
2. for your own personal information and
3. at your own risk.
With American Sign Language one uses muscles to create the gestures. These muscles are in your wrists, fingers, arms, and sometimes body. My Deaf Place does not take any responsibility for any kind of physical problem developed while learning and using sign language. In other words, Sing Language can be physically challenging. Please, if you have any concerns or suffer from any kind of condition that might cause you physical harm, discuss with your doctor first.
Sign Language may not be for everyone (although some may disagree) but it IS for some.
I encourage you, try it out.
You may jump in any time, but if you do not start from the beginning you will miss alot.
IF you are interested please register with ilah (eye-lah) at email ilahb@aol.com and subject line ASL Class and information will be emailed back to you with location address and registration information.
There are no contracts to sign and no obligation, just opportunity.
Pay as you go and if you can't make it one week, no problem.
If you have any questions, please email ilahb@aol.com subject line "asl class question" or just go to the "contact us" page on this site. Your request will be delivered.
Thank you for taking the time to come to my page. I look forward to serving the Deaf, HoH, their family and Friends, (and students) here in the greater Long Beach area.
